Bolivia Tours

Bolivia Facts: Bolivia is an amazingly diverse country in every sense of the word. Landlocked and located in the heart of South America, in Bolivia culture draws strongly from deep multi-ethnic indigenous roots, centuries of Spanish colonial occupation, the influence of its five neighbouring countries, and numerous very diverse foreign immigrant populations.
The history of Bolivia has been shaped by colourful conditions as reflected in the changing colours of the Bolivia flag, its nine state flags. See all Bolivia's national emblems. In rugged Bolivia government has been tumultuous and difficult, especially since the country gained its independence from Spanish rule in 1825.

The economy in Bolivia continues to undergo transitions as the country desperately searches for a more self-sustaining system that will release it from its almost complete dependence on traditional global trade models. Bolivian politics often hinder success. Another factor that impedes development is the availability of education in Bolivia.

The population of Bolivia remains relatively small and is concentrated in the three major cities of Bolivia: Santa Cruz de la Sierra, La Paz, and Cochabamba although there are several secondary Bolivia cities that are seeing rapid growth as transportation improves, and more industry, goods and services reach other regions of the country. These are El Alto (once a suburb of La Paz but autonomous since the 1980’s), Sucre (the one and only capital of Bolivia), Trinidad, Oruro, and Potosi. In Bolivia geography has played a very important part in the economy and the distribution and diverse ethnic make-up of its population. See our map of Bolivia page for more on Bolivia and its regions. See these pages on the major cities of Bolivia and famous people from Bolivia.

Bolivia travel offers some of the most authentic experiences of discovery. There is a beaten path that many travel, but it is narrow. Step off it just a little, and you'll discover a people as curious about you as you are about them. Our Bolivia tours explore this country's stunning geography and fascinating cultures. Chalalan Lodge is a favourite location within the Bolivian Amazon, completely managed and run by the indigenous Quechuas. Consider the classic circuit of La Paz, Sucre, Potosi, and Uyuni or visit the once a year festival in Oruro filled with costumes, dancing and ancient traditions. Our Jesuit Missions tour offers another glimpse at Bolivia rich past. No matter where you turn, adventure and discovery abounds in Bolivia - South America's best kept secret!
